This report identified four distinct, often disparate, rural Americas including: amenity-rich areas,  declining resource-dependent areas, chronically poor regions, and a transitional type area. The report goes into detail about each area and discusses the results from the Community and Environment in Rural America (CERA) survey where nearly 8,000 residents in 19 carefully selected rural counties were interviewed in the comprehensive survey to determine their opinions, experiences, and attitudes about the changes occurring in their lives, the lives of their families, and in their communities.
